WA Government Announce $100 Million Investment in Electronic Medical Record System

The Western Australian government has foreshadowed a $1.2 billion funding package to be announced in the upcoming state budget, including an investment of "almost $100 million" towards rolling out electronic medical records statewide. 

Upon completion, this electronic medical system will enable real-time sharing of patient information and greater access analytics.  The package is intended to aid clinical decisions as well providing virtual models of care. 

The first stage includes support for full functionality inside intensive care units at Perth Children’s Hospital and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.

The WA government hopes that the full roll could reduce preventable patient deaths while boosting staff retention efficiency.  These objectives stem directly from a 2019, 10 year Digital Strategy but only now receiving the significant budgetary funds necessary for implementation.
