The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has rejected NBN's proposed plan for pricing and access, sending it back to the drawing board.

This comes after two years of deliberation over how to make broadband more affordable and effective.

ACCC Commissioner Anna Brakey outlined four main reasons behind why NBN’s Special Access Undertaking (SAU) was not accepted - lack of incentives or requirements around investment efficiency, no guidance on prioritising service improvements in upcoming years, unclear implications for existing customers with 50Mbps plans as well as concerns raised about consumer satisfaction regarding poor quality services. She warned that inefficient costs could be passed onto consumers via higher retail prices if a suitable solution is not found soon.
