Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, received a rare legal victory when a privacy lawsuit filed by the US District of Columbia was dismissed.

The district had accused Meta of improperly sharing user data with third parties, including Cambridge Analytica.

In his opinion, the judge pointed out that Facebook had clearly disclosed how third parties could obtain data and had provided instructions on how to limit data sharing.

The lawsuit was filed after Cambridge Analytica obtained data on tens of millions of Facebook users without their consent. The district's attorney general has stated that they are considering their options.
