The UK's competition watchdog may have found a way to address concerns about Meta unfairly using advertising data from other businesses on its Facebook Marketplace platform.

Meta has offered to limit its use of this data and allow advertisers to opt out.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is considering accepting these commitments which will also allow advertisers to opt out of having their data used.

CMA executive director of enforcement Michael Grenfell said: "Reducing the risk of Meta unfairly exploiting the data of businesses who advertise on its platform for its own competitive advantage could help many UK businesses who advertise there.

"We are now consulting on these commitments which we believe, at this stage, will address our concerns."

The consultation on Meta's proposal will end on June 26.
