Three men have been charged by NSW police for their involvement in an SMS phishing scam.
During a raid in Burwood, officers discovered three large SIM boxes used for sending mass texts, along with SIM cards, cannabis, mobile phones, and a significant amount of identity information.
The most active SIM box allegedly sent over 80 million messages in five months.
These scam messages impersonated legitimate institutions while directing victims to fraudulent websites for financial gain.
The men, aged 43, 37, and 35, face charges including serious office usage, dealing with identity information for criminal purposes, and possession of a prohibited drug.
They appeared in Burwood Local Court on February 16 and were denied bail, with their next court date set for March 1.
