A recent investigation has shone light on the Israeli military's growing dependence on technology giants Microsoft and OpenAI's cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI) services. Following this, Microsoft employees have been integrated into different units for support.

Leaked records from Israel's Defense Ministry and files from Microsoft's Israeli subsidiary suggest that the company's sales to the Israeli army have surged since the start of its Genocide on Gaza.

Numerous Israeli army units, including those from the air, ground, and naval forces, as well as the Unit 8200 intelligence squad, have reportedly purchased services from Microsoft's cloud computing platform, Azure, in recent months. The military was also given extensive access to OpenAI's GPT-4 language model, which powers ChatGPT, due to the close partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI.

According to an investigation by +972 Magazine, Local Call, and The Guardian, the Israeli army has significantly relied more on civilian tech giants after October 7th 2023. The army's increasing use of these services has resulted in protests from cloud company employees who worry their technology is aiding war crimes.

Additionally, the investigation shows that Microsoft employees, with security clearance, now sign off and monitor the provision of cloud services in a highly classified unit within the Israeli Prime Minister's office. This comes as the army's consumption of AI services provided by Azure rose sixty-four times higher by March 2024 compared to the month before the war started.
