Meta Platforms, Facebook and Instagram's parent company, announced tighter content regulations for posts targeting 'Zionists'. This comes in response to antisemitic abuse and harassment.

The platform will now remove content attacking 'Zionists', when it's not clearly about the political movement and involve harmful stereotypes or threats towards Jewish or Israeli communities.

The current policies, which consider 'Zionist' a substitute for Jewish or Israeli people in a few cases, haven't been sufficient in addressing the broader usage of the term.

The update followed consultations with 145 stakeholders globally and comes amidst escalating tensions in the Middle East, following Israel’s war on Gaza.

Critics have accused Meta of suppressing pro-Palestinian content, adding fuel to the ongoing criticism of its content handling in the region.
