Hock Tan, Chief Executive of U.S.-based chipmaker Broadcom and his team have travelled to Brussels for a closed hearing on the $61 billion acquisition proposal of cloud computing firm VMware.

The merger has raised concerns from both sides of the Atlantic given its potential effect on competition in certain hardware components markets. However, Amazon, Microsoft and Google's presence in this sector may be used by Broadcom as evidence that there is still sufficient rivalry present.

It is anticipated that remedies will be offered following the meeting with EU antitrust enforcers ahead of their 21 June ruling date.
