Google is stepping up its artificial-intelligence capabilities in response to increasing competition in the search engine market.

Only three months after Microsoft's Bing search engine introduced AI to its platform, Google announced that it will be adding more advanced AI technology to its search engine. As part of these developments, Google has also made its own chatbot, Bard, available to people in more countries and languages.

Alphabet's shares jumped by 4 percent following the announcement, but Google has not yet said when its search engine will use generative AI for all users.
