Tech Sector Job Cuts Continue

Close to 200,000 tech employees have been laid off since the start of 2022

Music streaming service, Spotify is the latest tech firm to announce 600 job cuts after pandemic over expansion.

Spotify chief executive, Daniel Ek, told staff in a blogpost that the platform was reducing its workforce by 6% after he had been “too ambitious”. Spotify has 456 million monthly users. 

Almost 200,000 tech employees have been laid off since the start of 2022, according to Layoffs.fyi, a site that tracks job cuts in the sector. Four of the largest tech companies – Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft, have announced a total of more than 50,000 job cuts in recent months.
