Lockheed Martin has won the bid for Australia's costly Defence satellite communication system, beating out competing groups fronted by Optus, Airbus, and Boeing. The project will enhance Defence's military satellite abilities, says Air Vice-Marshal David Scheul who heads the air defence and space systems division.
The project covers the Indo-Pacific regions and involves managing two geostationary satellites under Defence's control, multiple ground stations, and two satellite operations centres.
Being named as preferred tenderer means Lockheed Martin proceeds to the next stage of the procurement.
